Myanmar Environment Institute (MEI) and Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) conducted a project of Mainstreaming Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Values into Chindwin River Basin Development Plans.  The Chindwin River is being degraded along with development activities such as deforestation and mining.  The aquatic fauna and flora of the river, including threatened species, are affected by overexploitation and illegal extraction.  Ecosystem function keeps nature along with the interaction of biotic and abiotic components.  Degradation of biodiversity leads to the deterioration of the ecosystem function, reducing ecosystem service products.
